It wasn’t until my sophomore year in college that I learned my name had African origins. My resident advisor was Nigerian and introduced herself in Igbo, unfortunately I understood nothing.  After a brief explanation that my parents just liked the name and to me it had no real significance, she educated me that ‘Kola’ is a traditional African name that means ‘one who brings wealth into the home.’ As you can expect, I was excited to learn this.  For me, ‘bringing wealth’ was not only about financial resources to my family, but also included bringing a wealth of knowledge to my community. This was now more than a name for me, it became my mission and my assignment. 

Armed with this intelligence, I set out on a journey that challenged my dedication, faith, and commitment to my new purpose.  Experiencing dating abuse, systemic generational curses, financial insufficiency, and anxiety was almost too much to bear. I learned that I was not alone in suffering these tribulations and knew that I wanted to prevent other people from having the same hardships, and help those who have heal.

I created Diamond Mind, LLC in order to showcase what can be accomplished when life’s pressures are used to create purpose, and to be a resource for individuals and organizations looking to overcome obstacles. As a Licensed Associate Counselor and Certified Rehabilitation Counselor I’m able to fulfill my namesake destiny and bring my community awareness to issues and knowledge on how to overcome them through an array of services.

I believe that, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” Hosea 4:6, but I also believe that education leads to empowerment.  I hope to continue inspiring and bringing wealth, in all of its forms, to my family and community.
